My first solo camping trip was to Pembrokeshire in South Wales. I wanted to find a campsite near Tenby and Saundersfoot as these were two key places on my Welsh road trip itinerary. Wills Field turned out to be the best place for me to spend the first two nights of my trip. And the best place for me to have my first solo camping trip.

Camping in Pembrokeshire: Staying at Wills Field, Saundersfoot

Best Time to go Camping in Pembrokeshire

When it comes to travelling, and especially camping, in Wales (or in the UK for that matter) you’re always going to be taking a risk! There is never a guarantee of good weather, even in the height of summer. I’d advise between June and September would be the best time to go camping in Pembrokeshire. This is when you have the best chance of sunshine, better weather, lighter evenings and warmer nights.

Where is Will’s Field?

Will’s Field is a small campsite located just outside Saundersfoot in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. The area forms part of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park – the only national park in the UK made up of entirely wild and maritime landscape.

How did I find out about Will’s Field?

I was looking at places to stay in the Tenby area on Air B&B and came across Will’s Field. I booked through Air B&B but you can also book through Pitch Up. Initially I booked one night, but I ended up staying for an extra night. Will just asked me to pay cash on the site.

Camping tip: take some cash with you as site owners may ask to be paid in cash! Check out my camping checklist to make sure you don’t forget anything.

There were great reviews of both the campsite and the owner Will on Air B&B which reassured me that it was a good place to stay.

Is it easy to access the campsite?

The campsite is on both Apple and Google Maps so you can easily get directions. The location on what.3.words is ///clincher.crackled.fury. The entrance to the campsite is a little hidden away. As you drive along the A478 you come to Four Seasons Farm Shop, there’s a wooden sign in the carpark saying CAMPSITE. This points to a narrow gravel driveway that leads to the campsite.

The campsite is just a 5 minute drive from Saundersfoot and 10 minutes from Tenby, both of which are great places to start walking parts of the Wales Coast Path.

What did I like most about Wills Field?

Will’s Field is a totally unique campsite, and was the ideal experience for my first time solo camping in Pembrokeshire. You didn’t really feel like you were in a campsite, but more like you were in the middle of a nature reserve. Will’s really put a lot of time and thought into the place.

There are lots of wildflowers, an outdoor area to do your washing up, a quaint shower and toilet block, a greenhouse where you could enjoy your breakfast or sit and read. The small pong with a water feature makes the most tranquil and relax background sound. There’s also a small gypsy caravan which you could stay in for an extra cost. You couldn’t hear much around apart from the sound of birds in the trees and the water running – very idyllic.

Will was very friendly and helpful when it came to recommending places to visit. The best thing was he gave you places in Tenby and Saundersfoot where you could avoid parking charges.

What facilities are at the campsite?

There’s a couple of basic showers and toilets. One of the showers you have to pay £1 for. Electric hook-up pitches are available at an extra cost. There’s a tap where you can access drinking water and fill a washing up bowl to clean your crockery.

Would I go back to Wills Field?

I’d definitely head back to Will’s Field if I was planning to visit that area of Wales again. It’s just the perfect place to have a relaxing time camping in Pembrokeshire.

Check out my instagram reel I made of my time at Will’s Field.
