The picture perfect snapshot of the desolate Wee White House sitting in the shadow of Buachaille Etive Mòr has to be one of the most iconic photo opportunities in the Scottish Highlands. In fact, my own shot of this scene is my phone wallpaper! In my opinion Glencoe is one of the most beautiful places in the Scottish Highlands. I’d even go as far as to say Glencoe is one of my favourite places in the world – bold statement I know. And for that reason it deserves a spot on anyone’s Scotland itinerary.
This little house is officially called Lagangarbh Hut, although it’s often called the ‘Wee White House’ – very straight to the point. It was a crofters house but now the National Trust for Scotland and the Scottish Mountaineering Club own it. Of course it will come as no surprise that it’s one of the most photographed sites in Glencoe.
HOW TO VISIT THE WEE WHITE HOUSE GLENCOE
How to get to Lagangarbh Hut
To visit the Wee White House you need to head to Ballachulish in Glencoe. If you’re on a Glencoe road trip Lagangarbh Hut is very easy to find as the A82 is the only road that goes through Glencoe. It’s impossible to get lost and you can clearly see the Lagangarbh Hut from the road. There aren’t any buses that stop at Ballachulish, so if you are relying on public transport you would be better off taking part in a. day trip from Edinburgh or Glasgow. These will make a stop at the Wee White House.
The River Coupall flows in front of Lagangarbh Hut. You can cross the river via a small footbridge and walk up to the house. This is a great area to wander round explore, so you can see the house the landscape from different perspectives.
Lagangarbh Hut Parking
There is a car park found just off the road, but there are a fair few pot holes. It might be easier to park in one of the lay-bys on either side of the road. These are just a short walk away from the hut. Parking is limited and can get busy, especially at the weekends and in the summer.

You can’t go inside the Wee White House but you can stay there. It offers self catering accommodation for groups up to 20. You have to book well in advance and email beforehand to apply.
Wee White House Walks
The West Highland Way is a 96 mile walkway which spans from Milngavie north of Glasgow to Fort William. The stretch from Kingshouse to Kinlochleven goes straight past Lagangarbh Hut.
A lot of hikers use the parking at the Lagangarbh Hut as a starting point to climb Buachaille Etive Mòr. Of course you don’t have to summit the mountain, you can just go up to the Coire na Tulaich ridge.
